You constantly hear the words eco, eco-friendly, green, greener, non polluting, organic, etc. Everyone wants to save the planet. That is a good thing. But you need to keep in mind the maintenance required. Regular Oiled Floor Cleaning And Refreshing is essential to preserve their natural look and durability.
Additionally, understanding the best practices for Oiled Floor Cleaning And Refreshing will empower you to take control of your floor care.
Cleaning
Regular Oiled Floor Cleaning And Refreshing can be a simple process if you stay on top of it. A little effort goes a long way in maintaining the beauty of your floors.
When selecting products for Oiled Floor Cleaning And Refreshing, opt for those that are specifically designed for oiled surfaces to ensure compatibility and effectiveness.
The floor oil used to seal your floors has great protective qualities but it can be affected by constant humidity. The water in any form of shape is the number one enemy of all kinds of wood floors. The oiled floors require very light cleaning with proper soap cleaners or specific wood floor cleaners that do not remove the protector.
Refreshing
Using the right techniques during Oiled Floor Cleaning And Refreshing will help avoid damage and maintain the integrity of your floors.
Regardless of the type of oiled floors, from what brand or in what shape it is, it requires regular refreshing. The protective layer of oil is likely to be washed away while the floor is getting cleaned, it can also be evaporated by the sunlight or it can just dry out because of the changes in temperature. That is not a problem at all if the floor gets oiled regularly. Basically, the old coat of oil will get topped up regularly and the floor will stay in a top notch condition for longer.
For those unsure about the process, professional Oiled Floor Cleaning And Refreshing services can provide peace of mind and ensure optimal results.
It’s important to remember that Oiled Floor Cleaning And Refreshing is an ongoing responsibility that pays off in the long run.
What Is A Refreshing Product
As mentioned above, there are hundreds of maintenance oils from hundreds of brands but in most cases, all of them are compatible with each other. Each brand will make the claim that its oils should only be refreshed or maintained with refreshers from its own brand only but in reality nobody does that.
A maintenance oil is a type of floor oil that contains special additives to help it dry much faster than the original floor oil. A normal floor oil will require about 12-24 hours to fully dry or the drying period between recoatings while the refreshers or the maintenance oils are likely to fully dry within 1-3 hours. The refreshers can be available in a clear finish or in any possible colour.
There is another category of refreshers that are not made from oil but instead are waterborne. These refreshers are compatible with the oiled floors and are basically doing the same job as the oiled floor refreshers but are drying much faster, are relatively odourless and are water based. The main issue with the waterborne refreshers is that the floor cannot be refreshed with oiled based maintainers at a later stage.
DIY Or Professional Refreshing
Oiled floor maintenance is not one of those jobs that require a lot of skill but even so, a lot of common sense is required and some level of knowledge is also essential. The difficulty of the operation is usually affected by the condition of the floor itself. If the floor is maintained regularly, then yes, it can be done without fancy tools or equipment, but if the floor has been neglected for years and has dried out big time, it will require a lot of coatings to re-build the protection on it and it can only done with proper tools and heavy floor buffers.
Light regular refreshing
The floor has to be washed a few times with a flat mop to remove as much dirt, grease and residue from the surface. The floor should be allowed to fully dry for a few hours. A good microfiber cloth should be used to apply a thin coat of refresher around the edges without touching the woodwork or the furniture. The larger floor area can be treated in conjunction with a flat mop head until the entire surface looks evenly wet but not soaked.
Up to 30 minutes of direct contact between the floor and the maintenance oil is required so the surface can absorb as much oil as needed and then the excess oil has to be extracted. Use a few good quality clean and dry microfiber cloths to rub the oil moving along with the fiber of the wood. All excess oil has to be extracted before it dries.

Heavy Duty Refreshing
Finally, remember that Oiled Floor Cleaning And Refreshing contributes not only to the beauty of your home but also to the health of your indoor environment.
In summary, prioritize Oiled Floor Cleaning And Refreshing to ensure your floors remain a stunning focal point in your home.
Neglected or badly stained oiled floors will require a totally different system of refreshing. Now that the surface has water damage, ingrained dirt, patchy finish and has no more protection on it, it is not as easy to restore it in full with a cloth and some oil. This is a job for professionals and it cannot be done without knowing what you are actually doing.
- Deep Cleaning | The entire floor will need to be deep cleaned with strong degreasers to break down the dirt residue from the wood floor. Proper heavy duty wood floor cleaners will be pre-sprayed and then allowed to work.
- Scrubbing | The cleaner will help dissolve the residue but a bit of agitation with a soft scrubbing buffer brush or a special oiled floor scrubbing pad will really help remove all the ingrained dirt.
- Extraction | Now that all that messy waste is splashed all over the floors, you will need to extract it. A great quality wet vacuum will do that job nicely. Floor Cleaning Dublin uses fine quality extraction vacuums fitted with soft squeegees to avoid scratching the wood.
- Drying I Special air blowers and fans will be used to fully dry the top layer and the inside of the wood before preparing the oiled floor for re-oiling. Depending on how wet the wood floor got, this operation can take anywhere from 10 minutes to 2 hours.
- Oiling | Now the tricky part. If the hardwood floor is really damaged, very patchy looking and has high absorbency, a minimum of 3 coats of maintenance oil is required. The first coat has to be applied with a low speed floor buffer and a white floor pad. This coat will just sink in nearly instantly. The pressure of the floor buffer rotating will spread the maintenance oil deep and evenly. A few hours later, the second coat will go over the first one. This second coat will sink slower because the absorption of the floor is reduced. Then about 3 hours later, the final coat will go over the second coat. This final coat should in theory re-glaze the floor and enhance the protection.
- Coloured Refreshers | If the floor is very badly stained, then the clear oil maintenance might not be an option and instead the floor will need to be refreshed with a coloured maintenance oil to mask the imperfections.
